Sorry to say that she probably did not even understand what a portfolio is and why it is important that it be presented in a professional manner. In fact, you lost her at "Excuse me".

At first I wanted to say that you are one strange individual, but I have to admit that I find myself focusing more on the strange looks of our politicians than on what they in fact have to say. I guess it doesn't help that all politicains essentially say 1 of 2 things. They all take the side of their parties and pretend to actually care when in fact the really don't have any opinions of their own. However, this is a discussion for another post. Back to the strange looking people, I would like to add Ross Perot to the list and add that George Dubbya Bush cannot truelly be appreciated for his odd looks unless you include his entire body. He has braod shoulders that don't fit his body type, yet still wears shoulder pads and stands all hunch over. Another, funny looking guy is John McCain who looks like a dwarf or midget. Just take a look for yourself.

As a venomous hater of Cablevision I find myself strangly comforted by the fact that your experiences with Cablevision were far worse than anything I had to tolerate. Cablevision is certainly a Hellish entity, but the devil may be giving them more credit than they deserve. The devil is cunning and intelligent, Cablevision not so much. The are simpleminded and annoying. Though not only do they fail to provide a quality service, but the singlehandedly destroyed the New York Knickerbockers and my love of professional basketball. I hate those SOBs.

Eliot Spitzer is one ugly dude, but it's OK you didn't include a photo of him. We've seen him a lot lately. Dick Cheney has the scariest face on the planet. If you were going to draw an evil villain for a comic book, would he look worse than that?

I did notice that all the guys look unhappy but Britney and Dawn look, if not happy exactly, well, upbeat.

I concur - horrible company - disorganized customer account records, delayed bill presentment, long phone waits for support & unhelpful service techs, once the wait is over. Clearly, these employees aren't well taken care of by management, otherwise Cablevision would be keeping up with the likes of Apple, Dell, Amazon and many other large companies that are making substantial improvements with their customer service department policies and thus the end product...........satisfied customers. It’s not happening Cablevision.

Sadly, I understand your husband's fear. Our society has become one that gives the power to children. We tell parents that they cannot discipline their children by giving so much power to ACS. We tell adults that they are supposed to negotiate with children because it preserves their self-respect. We tell teachers that making children aware of their mistakes is corporal punishment and by doing so we put our jobs on the line. We live in a society where stupidity is rewarded with frivolous lawsuits and ridiculous settlements.

So why are we afraid of our children? Because we are in a period of what Murray Bowen calls "Societal Regression"- where people focus more on rights and less on responsibilities. Our responses to situations are dictated by our need to remove current anxiety and therefore we don't think about the long-term future.

What do we do? I'm not sure. We keep trying to teach our students to be responsible adults despite the contradictory messages sent by parents and law-makers. Either that, or we stop caring and I don't know if that can happen.
